Building Beyond Code: Lifeline Infrastructure and the Case for Coordinated Resiliency

Building Beyond Code: Lifeline Infrastructure and the Case for Coordinated Resiliency
As communities face increasing pressure to deliver resilient, future-ready buildings, the intersection between the structure and the lifeline infrastructure that supports it is needs additional research and study. This presentation explores the critical connection between buildings and essential systems like power, water, telecom, and transportation—framed through the lens of lifeline infrastructure resiliency. Using steel conduit as a case in point, we’ll examine how to move from meeting minimum code to designing for long-term reliability, sustainability, and adaptability. Attendees will learn how smart material choices—like steel conduit—can reduce lifecycle costs, improve disaster resilience, and align with emerging public policy priorities around infrastructure investment.
