Retrofitting for Resilience

The imperative to proactively prepare for extreme weather is clear in the wake of destructive hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, tornadoes, droughts, hailstorms, and floods. While the cost to retrofit buildings and infrastructure to mitigate the financial, physical, and emotional toll of these disasters varies widely, the benefits are clear. During this session, attendees will hear from leading subject matter experts from both the public and private sectors on the crucial need to retrofit our existing building stock, both pre- and post-event, in order to ensure occupant safety and security. This will include lessons from rebuilding after Hurricanes Katrina & Rita, leading best practices in retrofitting existing buildings, and how the Federal government has helped to lead in ensuring structure and community resilience.
