Jonathan Barr is a certified systems engineer who has worked extensively with stakeholders across the national security community. He has a broad technical background, including degrees in mechanical engineering and materials science, as well as a graduate certificate in medical sciences, which provides for strong footing across many domains.
Currently, Barr is engaging stakeholder communities to better understand both current and near-future needs to drive and develop the next-generation technologies that will support them.
Due to Barr’s qualifications and experience, he was granted an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) CertifAIEd “lead assessor” credential for the ethical assessment of autonomous and intelligent systems. This first-of-its-kind credential empowers Barr to guide organizations through a thorough review and examination of their artificial intelligence (AI) systems to determine ethical conformance. There are only a handful of professionals with this level of certification in the world.
Barr received his BS in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University, MS in mechanical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and Graduate Certificate in Medical Sciences from the School of Medicine, University of Washington.
