BIMStorm: Brains, Bytes & Digital Twins

Track: Application & Implementation

Building on the momentum of the Brains & Bytes BIMStorm, this session will demonstrate how BIM, AI, and digital twins are actively working solutions in real-world environments.

Over the past nine months, BIMStorm has integrated hands-on exercises, rapidly developed new applications on the fly, and linked emerging technologies to a system-of-systems approach. By capturing new use cases and connection profiles, we’ve shown how practical and scalable digital twin ecosystems can be implemented in real time.

This session also will draw from the recent release of the Digital Twins for the Built Environment position paper, emphasizing the importance of starting with clear, real-world challenges—also known as use cases—to drive the application of digital twins, rather than letting technology alone set the agenda. Participants will see examples of how we’ve used existing data frameworks from BIM, GIS, and sensors to create powerful, interconnected systems that break down data silos and deliver actionable insights for asset management and operations.

This session isn’t just another canned PowerPoint presentation. The focus is on showing how systems actually work, rather than talking about what might be possible. We’ll highlight real-time developments, such as the integration of new technologies into existing systems, continuous capture of use cases, and agile development of applications.

By emphasizing modularity, agility, and continuous improvement—key principles from the NIBS position paper—participants will see how they can start small, build on existing data, and scale their digital twin systems over time. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the tools, policies, and workflows required to successfully implement and manage digital twins.

This session is designed to be interactive and practical, encouraging participants to join future workshops, contribute their own use cases, and continue exploring advancements in the field. To reinforce the hands-on nature of this initiative, we will also have a booth on the show floor where participants can interact with live demonstrations over the course of the two-day event.

Whether you’re looking to drive efficiency in facilities management, reduce costs, or enhance operational insights, this session will provide you with actionable steps to make digital twins a reality for your organization.
