Joy Marshall Ortiz, AIA, NCARB, is President of The Marshall Group, Ltd, a full-service architecture firm based in Reston, Virginia. Ortiz has more than 38 years of experience in architecture, interior design, and construction and has participated in a multiplicity of new and renovation projects for both public and private clients. Her areas of expertise include programming, interior and exterior design, leading design teams, and construction documentation.
With a thorough understanding of organizational functions and commitment to client satisfaction, Ortiz is particularly skilled at interpreting client requirements into sound programming, planning, and design concepts. Ortiz often serves as a liaison between the client and governmental agencies, presenting projects to the various authorities, neighborhood advisory commissions, historic boards and corporation councils.
Past board appointments include both the National Institute of Building Sciences and Fairfax County Architectural Review Board.
Ortiz is co-founder of the Betty and Mort Marshall Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was created in 2018, in partnership with NIBS, to provide scholarships to students studying Architecture and Engineering at a Historically Black College or University.
Ortiz received her Bachelor of Architecture from Howard University and currently holds licenses in Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Washington, DC. She is NCARB certified.
