Luz Toro is a licensed architect in Colombia (CPNAA), an International Associate of the AIA, and an accomplished resilience expert with over 15 years of experience in design, project management, and leadership.

As the Director of Resilience at the American Institute of Architects, she leads programs that empower architects and communities to address climate challenges through sustainable and adaptive design. Luz oversees key initiatives such as the Resilience Design Toolkit and the Resilient Project Process Guide, collaborating with organizations like FEMA and the White House to advance resilience education, policy advocacy, and project implementation.

Her expertise blends Colombian vernacular architecture with modern technologies to create innovative, cost-effective solutions that harmonize people and the environment. Luz holds a professional Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the National University of Colombia and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Bioclimatic Architecture from Piloto University of Colombia. Her leadership has positioned her as a thought leader in sustainable and resilient design.
