David Schnerch, PhD, PE is a Principal, Senior Engineer, and Building Science Specialist with RDH Building Science in Boston. He is currently Vice President of the Structural Engineers Association of Massachusetts and was previously the president of the Boston Association of Structural Engineers. His 20-plus years’ experience on over 1,000 projects as a consulting engineer has primarily involved problem-solving and failure investigations of building structures, facades, and building materials. This work has included condition assessments, investigations, construction troubleshooting, and review of disputes involving water and air infiltration, cracking, displacement, adjacent construction, collapse, among other building problems. Schnerch has developed repairs for historic and contemporary buildings and developed a system for strengthening steel structures with pre-stressed ultra-high modulus carbon fiber reinforced polymer materials as part of his doctoral research. Schnerch also maintains an active FAA license as a small Unmanned Aircraft (sUAS or drone) pilot.
