Dr. Johnny Fortune, Ed.D., is a technology leader and subject matter expert in building information management (BIM) for the architecture, engineering, construction, and owner/operator (AECO) industry. He serves as the Executive Director of the U.S. National BIM Program with the National Institute of Building Sciences, where he focuses on directing and guiding the program to improve efficiencies in the AECO industry.
Dr. Fortune has more than 20 years of experience in computer-aided design (CAD) and BIM administration. Throughout his career, he has successfully helped many professionals adopt various levels of design and construction technology, from hand drafting to CAD, BIM, and virtual design and construction (VDC). His vast experience includes developing organizational strategies, standards, training, workflows, and integration with external stakeholders. Additionally, he holds various industry credentials, such as CDT, CM-BIM, CM-Lean, and LEED AP.
Dr. Fortune is a contributing author for several national standards documents, including the USACE and VA BIM requirements. He also has presented at various technology conferences, including Autodesk University, AEC Next, Building Innovation, BIMForum, COAA, CURT, CMAA, Digital Built Week, DBIA, GeoWeek, Groundbreak, IHEEP, and ITCON. He also served as adjunct professor at the University of West Florida. Dr. Fortune enjoys utilizing technology for improving business and industry processes and focuses on building meaningful and lasting relationships.
